This Plumbing Repair Wasn't Done by a Master Plumber!

Amateur plumbing repair noticed during a home inspection

This is a Donald Duck orange juice container modified to catch the drip from a leaking water pipe and drain it into a container.  Plumbing leaks that are not properly fixed in a timely manner can lead to other problems such as mold.  Always call a licensed contractor to make your home repairs!

Ooops... Wrong House Torn Down

There are some things 'I'm sorry' just can't fix.  This happened a few months back... imagine coming home to an empty lot like this poor Russian woman.  They demolished her home 'by mistake' instead of a nearby building that was supposed to be torn down.  How do you make a 'mistake' like that?  Before you start demolishing a building, don't you check, double check and even triple check that you have the right place first?  Just a thought.

HomeInspectionBlog.com Gets Mention in Arizona Republic Real Estate Blogging Article!

HomeInspectionBlog.com was recently mentioned in an Arizona Republic article by David van den Berg.  The article on real estate bloggers came out in the May 17th Arizona Republic.  "Blogs Will Grow As Tool For Real Estate", can also be viewed online.

Note:  In the article, the link to HomeInspectionBlog.com mistakenly has a space in it, so the link in the online article doesn't work.

Air Conditioner on Brand New Home Doesn't Work

Brand new home's air conditioner doesn't work because the thermostat's wires were not stripped and are therefore not making proper contact! This would affect the heating operation also.

Any ideas why this brand new home's air conditioner does not work?

The correct answer will be posted in the 'Comments' next Tuesday, February 28th!

Be sure to check back...you can make a 'Comment' below if you think you know the answer!

There's a What on My Roof?

Cactus on roof As a home inspector, I often make recommendations to my clients that they should remove or trim vegetation away from the house to prevent damage.  In this case, a small cactus was growing on the patio roof.  This is not the first time I have needed to recommend the removal of a cactus from the roof.

Door To Nowhere

Door to nowhere! I recently stumbled across this little jewel.  I was inspecting this mid 50's house and when I opened a pocket door that I assumed was to a closet, I discovered that it was blocked off by the exterior siding.  Maybe this is a door to nowhere like in the famous haunted Winchester Mansion.  Hmmm.
